EFDSS AWARDS

Bob & Gill Berry are delighted to have been given an award in this year's English Folk Dance & Song Society Anniversary Awards ceremony on Monday 11th June 2007.

The EFDSS 75th Anniversary Awards were a way of honouring many of the people who have made significant contributions to the development and continuity of traditional English folk music, song and dance. All members of the Society were invited to nominate individuals whom they saw as fulfilling one or more of the nomination criteria, which were:
• to have given outstanding service to the Society e.g. having served on local and or club committees for a long period of time
• to have enthused others to participate in traditional music, song or dance, or related activities
• to have made a significant contribution to the field of research in the folk arts
• to have become an outstanding teacher or performer

Many people who were nominated have fulfilled more than one of the criteria – the traditional arts have very many facets - and the Society is delighted to honour people with such a wide spread of skills, recognising past and present contributions to folk music and dance and in the case of the younger nominees their promise for the future as well.

Around 250 people had a very enjoyable evening and the programme featured a number of award recipients.

VOLUNTEER HELP
We are looking for some volunteer assistance for the Devizes Folk Club on Sunday 15th July.
We have found a great way to offset the cost of hiring the room for club nights etc. Now that the smoking ban is in force the pub needs a bit of a face lift, so we have offered to paint the pub. Ailsa, the landlady, has footed the bill for all the materials and we are supplying the labour.
What we need is volunteers for whatever time you can let us have even if it's just a few minutes to sing us a song while we scrub and paint.

This is a great time to use up those old bar shanties and scrubbing the decks songs, and it will help us enormously. We'll provide bacon sarnies for lunch and a pint but all donations either in food or assistance will be gratefully accepted.

Please let us know if you can help and we'll make a fun morning/ afternoon/ evening/ night of it.
Festivities and scrubbing starts at 10am
Please help if you can
Thanks.

TISBURY FESTIVAL
We've just received some info for a new festival in Wiltshire.

Tisbury Folk Festival is a brand new Festival taking place in the small Wiltshire Town of Tisbury on the 15th September 2007.

Info is patchy at the moment but we are reliably informed that Concerts will have James Fagan & Nancy Kerr, Bob Fox, Pete Coe, P J Wright, Bob & Gill Berry, Pete Scowther, Dangerous Curves and many others.

Many of the Artists are "doing it for free" in order to get the Festival going and there is going to be a good range of venues, lots of opportunities to participate and good camping withing easy staggering distance of the village centre.

More information will be posted here on the website soon and in our regular updates.
In the meantime block book that weekend up in your diary.
